Centering Equity, Race, and Cultural Literacy in Family Planning

CERCL-FP

CERCL-FP is a collective of dedicated intersectional multidisciplinary professionals who employ critical race theory and reproductive justice frameworks to dismantle interpersonal and structural racism within all sectors of family planning healthcare.

CERCL-FP operates within these six spheres of family planning.

Trainings and Curriculum

CERCL-FP has created a racial literacy curriculum and has provided transformational and paradigm shifting presentations at national conferences and for national reproductive health organizations. Our training and curriculum are rooted at the intersection of critical race theory and reproductive justice, incorporate culturally responsive wellness and self-care, and provide actionable methods for diversifying the workforce and leaders.

Presentations

CERCL-FP has been consulted to critically examine pedagogy, recommend programmatic learning objectives, and suggest evaluation methods for complex family planning fellowship sites. CERCL-FP members have provided intersectional analyses regarding the changing legal environment for abortion services and providers through media interviews, invited speaking engagements, and governmental testimonies.

Partners & Resources

We are partnering with critical race theory scholars, reproductive justice advocates, and law professors to reimagine advocacy and legal analysis that incorporates the history of racist and colonialist reproductive control and coercion in the United States.

About Our Team

Centering Equity, Race, and Cultural Literacy in Family Planning is a collective of 13 physicians (12 physicians of color, one white physician) and one critical race theory (CRT) law professor of color. We are multiracial, multiethnic, intergenerational, polyglot, transnational, and represent diverse immigrant and LGBTQ+ experiences. We operate within an equity model of power-sharing and collective decision-making.

Our mission is to implement racial justice frameworks to advance family planning healthcare by centering communities of color, embracing stories, fostering dialogue, and transforming systems of education, research, mentorship, leadership, advocacy, clinical care, and family and community engagement.
